Bedroom Design - Beach Resort

Recently I was able to help turn an old bedroom into a refreshed guest room with a Beach Resort theme. You would think that this project would have been a little weird for me, but really it was a lot of fun. Why would it be weird? My parents finally decided to re-do my old room! By recycling items from around the house, and shopping in discount stores, this room was re-done in under $500, and that includes a brand new mattress set and furniture! This room turned out great... and almost made me want to move back! Almost...

View from the entrance.

The dresser is recycled from the basement.  A small comfy chair in a  bright coordinating fabric will be added to the corner as a nice spot for guests to read or relax. The yellow and cream rug was a steal at TJ Maxx and brings out the yellow in the bedding and hides some wear and tear from the "previous owner".

This beautiful beach themed bedding was a great deal found on the last summer vacation. The  bed was a great steal found at the local Habitat for Humanity Store for only $25! We painted it and gave it an antique finish for some texture. The coordinating side tables were found at TJ Maxx along with the sparkly lamps with natural shades. The yellow pillow and white throw are from Marshalls. Some of the accessories on the bedside tables were found around the house, or also at Marshalls and TJ Maxx.

A star fish shaped plate found at Marshall's is used as a tray for a nice vase from around the home that holds a sea grass rose brought home from the beach.

Pillows make a bed extra inviting, and are a great way to bring more color into a space.

Beach themed baubles spruce up this table top, and when added with the lamp show  they create a balanced effect on either side of the bed. Always pair accessories in odd numbers.

My mom had been looking for one of these little porcelain stands generally used in a garden. When we found one in a coordinating coral color from the bedding, and the shell type texture, we couldn't resist! Eventually this may be paired with the future side chair as an ottoman or side table, but it seems to fit perfectly in this spot right now.

Don't you just want to crawl in and stay awhile?

Introducing... Leisyl Boone Designs!

I have had a major passion for three things in my life for as long as I can remember... Shopping, History and Interior Design. So, I studied History at Kent State University after high school, and I am currently working on completing my Bachelors of Art in Interior Design with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and I spent a lot of time practicing the great art of shopping for the best bargains! I have always felt that a knack for good design and making a space beautiful, functional and comfortable is a talent you are born with – and not everyone is blessed with those internal cues of what color will make them feel good, or why that couch just does not seem right on that wall. What is unfair is that you need to pay hundreds of dollars a square foot to hire a professional to come in, fix your room, use their contractors, buy their furniture, and then charge you a commission on each of those items, as well as a huge designer fee. I think everyone deserves to live in the space of their dreams, on the budget they can afford.

That is where I come in.

I have always had to live on a budget, and even though design is my passion, I too have had to create a space that works for me while being creative with that budget and the materials I have at my fingertips (or in my Mom & Dad’s basement...) You know what... I have loved every minute! It is like putting together a puzzle – or being a contestant on a game show – I have $50 and a boring room – what can I do to pep it up? Enter some cheap throw pillows from a discount store I pepped up with some homemade felt flowers, a cute little table I bought at a tag sale and refinished, and a hand me down blanket, and a painting I made myself. Not only is my space more inviting, but it has more meaning because I made many of the items personal with my own special touch. I love making something great, out of nothing at all!

Price is a factor for each of us. But why live in a space that drives us crazy when we each have the tools to change it, we just need a little direction? A little help with furniture arrangement, picking paint colors, accessorizing and even help shopping for the right furniture or accessories can go a long way. And if you really feel overwhelmed or just want it all to be done professionally for you – I can help with that too!

I have created this blog as a way to share with the masses (or the 2-3 of you that are reading it now) my little tips and tweaks I have learned to created through my own research and experiences. This is a way to get my creative juices flowing, and to hopefully to help you discover your own as well. And if you just can’t get the juices going with my tips, then call me, and I would be glad to help you!

Below is a rundown of some of the services I offer and a list of fees. This list is by no means a complete list – have something else in mind? Ask! I am here to help, and would love to get our creative juices flowing, together!

Full Service Design
I provide a full range of decorating services for both the interior and exterior of your home. I will work with your contractors to give you the space of your dreams! The initial consultation is a meeting to discover what it is that you are looking for. Next comes the creation of floor plans, furniture selections, color schemes, lighting accessories, selecting window treatments, wall coverings, faux finishes, flooring, creation of custom florals, etc. I will be working with you from the first concept, till the last accessory is placed!

Room Re-Design
Re-Design is my favorite type of design! Let me help you find the style in your current space. You decide what your budget is, and show me what items you have but have not purpose for, and I can re-purpose it into a more functional and visually interesting piece! I will walk you through how to make your space the talk of the town, and it will be our little secret just how little you spend on doing it!

One-Day Room-Over
Let’s pick a room in your house, and completely change it up, all while using the furniture and treasures you have in your room, and hidden in your basement! In one day, we will re-arrange furniture, re-hang pictures and art, and replace accessories, giving you a brand new style, using your space and treasures!

Professional Shopping Service
Having trouble finding just what you want in your home, and on the budget you have? As a self-professed shop-a-holic, I have found the best places to shop for great items for the home on any budget. I hunt high and low to find precisely what you are looking for, and I get a kick out of doing it!

Fees
Traditional Interior Designers tend to be product driven – they contract with retailers to offer you an expensive product, and then take a commission on top of their hourly fees. Designers also will take a kickback from the contractors they work with. I believe in getting the best deal and hiring the contractors that you want, so I want to offer you the same! With my services, you pay an hourly fee and that is it – no hidden charges. You pick the contractors you want to work with, so you can help out that family friend, or do it yourself if you prefer. (I do have a list of some contractors I have worked with personally that I am happy to offer if needed).
